September Happenings in Kindergarten
Do not forget that Early Release days are Thursday, September 11, 2008, and Friday, September 12, 2008. The children will be leaving school at 12:15 both days.
Please make an appointment with your child’s teacher. This is a great way to strengthen the home/school connection. We would like to have 100% participation.
Some Kindergarten Classes will have “Muffins with Mom” on September 19, 2008. Check your child’s folder for more information.
Remember to check your child’s folder each night and sign his/her agenda.

Unit B Senses and sorting continued from last month. This unit continues until September 29, 2008.
Starting on August 18, 2008, and continuing through until September 26, 2008, we will begin a unit on Senses and Sorting. We will sort objects by using our senses. We will classify materials according to their physical attributes and graph the number of items that have the same physical attributes. We will determine objects that sink and that float in water and use an observation sheet to record our results. Students will be able to use their senses to sort, identify the effect of heat on items, and identify whether items have been sorted correctly.
In Social Studies
We will state rules and the consequences for breaking rules. We will use a map to find various places in the school. We will use direction words to find objects and places. The students need to be working on personal demographic information (address, city, county, state, nation, and continent). This is a year long goal for the report card. In addition to address information, the students need to know birthday (month, date, and year) and phone number (area code + phone number).
