NCSS Accolades

 

 

  • Alcovy High, Eastside High, and Newton High named 2012-2013 AP STEM Schools for schools with students testing in at least two AP science courses and two AP math courses;
  • Eastside High School Mock Trial Team earned a first-time ever berth in the State Competition;
  • Newton High was a site for Savannah-Chatham School System visit to learn how to create an Instructional Focus period within the school day;
  • Alcovy, Eastside, and Newton High Schools were awarded funds to attend the 2012 Advanced Placement Summer Institutes;
  • In 2012, Newton County School System demonstrated improvement in 7 of 9 high school subjects tested by Georgia's End-of-Course Tests (Outperformed the state in 5 of 8 high school subjects--First Time!)
  • Newton County School System demonstrated improvement in 22 of 30 instances on Georgia's Criterion-Referenced Competency Tests (CRCTs) for a 73% improvement clip. (Outperformed the state in 4 instances and tied the state in 4 other instances--First Time!)
  • Clements Middle, Cousins Middle, and Newton High were recognized by the GaDOE for their implementation of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports;
  • Newton High School received the High Flying Schools Award--only one of five in the nations;
  • Fairview Elementary won a 2013 BigLots2Give National Grant;
  • Newton College & Career Academy won the 2013 Ford NextGen Learning Community Challenge Grant;
  • Eastside student Seth Kimbrell Named National Merit Scholar;
  • Veterans Memorial Middle School Media Specialist, Leslie Coleman, Named 2012 South Metro District Library Media Specialist of the Year by the Georgia Library Media Association;
  • Newton County FFA Chapter Named 2012 Two-Star  Winner in National FFA National Award Program;
  • The Newton County School System Procurement Department Awarded prestigious 17th Annual Achievement of Excellence in Procurement Award (AEP) for 2012 and 2013 from the National Purchasing Institute;
  • NCSS produces dozens of regional and state science fair winners over multiple years;
  • NCSS Produces 72 AP Scholars in 2013;
  • Middle Ridge Elementary School Named a 2013 National Blue Ribbon School (One of only nine in the state);
  • Newton College & Career Academy Named 2013 Ford Next Generation Learning Community (One of 17 in nation);

  • Newton High School student Ava Teasley named a 2014 national Broadcom MASTERS Semifinalist for her state science fair project;
