Newton County School System will host the 5th Grade Elementary Honor Chorus Concert on Saturday, March 8 at 2:30 PM at Newton High School on Crowell Road. Admission is free and the general public is invited to attend.

Each elementary school in Newton County sends approximately ten, fifth-grade students to represent their schools. In order to make the chorus, students must audition for their school music teachers.  Chorus members have been busy rehearsing the music with their teachers and will practice and perfect the music with the clinician the morning of the concert.

This year's clinician is Mr. Rick McKee (  He is a Georgia Teacher, State Clinician, and a Composer/Arranger.  The students will be performing two of his pieces:  Giver of Life and Barn Dance.  Students will also perform Ayele, a Traditional Song from Ghana, Alexander's Ragtime Band by Irving Berlin and Nancy Price - Arranged by Don Besig, and Tutira Mai (We Stand as One) a Traditional Maori Folk Song - Arranged by Martin Ellis and Henry Leck. In addition, the Newton County Elementary Teachers will perform Psalm 136, another piece written by Mr. McKee.

This year's accompanist is Mrs. Eva Bone, the current accompanist for the Oxford Singing Children/Oxford Youth Singers and Grace Baptist Church of Newton County.

“We would love to invite all faculty and staff of Newton County and the general public too,” said Ms. Amy Rains, Music Specialist at Heard-Mixon Elementary School.
