Golden State Foods Foundation and United Stationers have donated backpacks full of school supplies for Newton County School System (NCSS) students. In all, 350 backpacks stuffed with school supplies will make it into the hands of NCSS students. Ms. Kim Donahue, Human Resources Manager and Ms.  Kim Parris, Human Resources Generalist for Golden State Foods, made the presentation Tuesday, July 29 at the Newton County Board of Education.

“We are most appreciative of Golden State Foods contributions to our children,” said Samantha Fuhrey, Superintendent of Newton County Schools. “For several years now, Golden State Foods has donated school supplies for our students in need and it is greatly appreciated. This will mean a great deal to so many of our students.”

According to Fuhrey, each of the school district’s elementary and middle schools will receive backpacks to distribute to students in need.

Donahue noted that employees from Golden State Foods and United Stationers teamed up to stuff each of the backpacks with school supplies. In all, the group donated 350 backpacks to Newton county Schools; 300 to Rockdale County Schools; and 50 to a local women’s shelter.

Donahue added, “The backpacks and school supplies are paid for by the people who work for Golden State Foods with funding coming through payroll deductions. All of the money collected is put back into our local community.”
