Some of you have contacted us regarding an alleged threat on social media that has gone viral. The Newton County School System and school systems throughout the state and nation are aware of this message.

Please be advised that our school district has not received any direct threats regarding student safety. We reached out to local law enforcement and they were already aware of the social media post that has been shared nationwide. We want to assure you that we will be vigilant tomorrow, as well as every day, as we consider the safety of our students and staff our number one priority.

As you know, tomorrow is a very important day in our nation’s history. Students throughout our district will participate in September 11 remembrance day activities to not only honor the almost three thousand men and women who perished during those tragic events fourteen years ago, but also to celebrate the many heroes from that day, including the police officers, firefighters, and other first-responders whose courage was on full display for an entire nation to see.

In addition to our September 11 activities, tomorrow is also a very important for you, as it is a day we have set aside for parents to meet with teachers to discuss your child’s progress this year.

We hope that you have scheduled a parent/teacher conference tomorrow. If you were unable to schedule a conference, we encourage you to contact your child’s teacher to make other arrangements, as parent involvement is a key indicator of student success.
