The Newton County School System’s Office of Public Relations has received state recognition for publications produced during the 2014-2015 school year. In all, the Georgia School Public Relations Association (GSPRA) awarded the district six awards—three silver, two gold, and one best in category. School public relations departments throughout the state were eligible to participate in the Georgia School Public Relations Association’s recognition program.

Items submitted from Newton County School System included the district’s Fast Facts Calendar, Board of Education Brochure, Annual Report, NCSS InBox, and Facebook page.

The school system’s Facebook page won both a gold award and “Best in Category” for Social Media. In addition, of the more than 150 print and electronic media publications submitted in the statewide competition, only four received perfect scores—and the NCSS Facebook page was one of them. Judges from the North Carolina School Public Relations Association judged the Georgia publications contest and noted that the NCSS Facebook page was an, “excellent model of a school district Facebook Page,” was “engaging” and made “great use of videos and photos.”

Newton County School System’s newest publication, the NCSS InBox, which all parents receive at the beginning of the school year to organize back-to-school publications, also earned a gold award in the state contest. The district’s Board of Education brochure, Annual Report, and Fast Facts Calendar each received silver awards.

“Content for all of the publications is written by the public relations department but a lot of the credit must go to local graphic design firm, Square One Creative Group,” said Sherri Davis-Viniard, Director of Public Relations for Newton County Schools. “The Fast Facts Calendar, Board of Education Brochure, InBox, and Annual Report were designed by Square One. They do a fantastic job taking the ideas and turning them into wonderful publications. ”

“The goal of the NCSS Public Relations Department is to keep our stakeholders continually informed of important information regarding our school district,” she added. “It’s truly an honor to have our publications receive statewide recognition.”
