On Saturday, January 16, 2016, Newton County School System's local FFA Chapters will host the 2nd Annual Hogs of Hazzard Pig show from 9am to 3pm at the Newton County Livestock Arena, which is located behind Newton College and Career Academy at 144 Ram Drive, in Covington, Georgia. Admission is complementary and concessions will be available for purchase.

Proceeds from the pig show will benefit FFA chapters from Alcovy High School, Eastside High School, Newton High School, as well as Newton College & Career Academy, by providing funds for improvements to the Newton County Livestock Arena, which was originally built in 1986. Improvements will include expanded livestock penning arrangements in addition to other facility renovations.

This year, Newton County FFA chapters have a record 30 pigs for the show season. The show will host a maximum of 150 pigs from across the state.

Students who raise and show livestock in events such as the Hogs of Hazzard Pig Show learn valuable lessons related to responsibility, respect, goal-setting, record keeping, and work ethic. Students must feed, bathe, exercise, and care for their animal, much like a parent must do for a child.
