The Newton College & Career Academy STEM Institute (NCCASI) is currently accepting applications for the 2016-2017 school year.  A link to the application, which must be completed and submitted electronically by Monday, February 29, 2016, is posted on both the Newton College & Career Academy website and the Newton County School System homepage. The link is also posted at the bottom of this announcement.

NCCASI recruits rising freshman with a strong interest in engineering or healthcare as a future career choice.  While students may vary in their background and represent the diversity of Newton County’s population, they are similar in their motivation to achieve academically and in their determination to prepare for professional careers and positions of leadership. Students will achieve this through exposure to a unique curriculum combined with project-based/problem-based learning.

Students interested in applying to NCCASI should currently be enrolled in the eighth-grade and must have scored an 850 (or higher) on the Criterion Referenced Competency Test (CRCT) or achieve “Proficient” or “Distinguished” on the Georgia Milestones in both math and science.

NCCASI will host an Open House on Thursday, February 18 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. to provide more information to students and parents interested in the program. NCCASI will review all applications submitted by the deadline and will notify students of their status by March 4, 2016. Applicants who meet the eligibility criteria must participate in an interview to be scheduled March 12-28. After the interview process is complete, NCCASI will mail letters to all candidates selected as well as those placed on a wait list on May 13, 2016.

Those interested in applying are encouraged to attend the STEM Open House on Thursday, February 18. For more information about the STEM Institute or the application process, please contact Ms. Grenetta Turner at or Mr. Scott Rains at
