The Newton College and Career Academy (NCCA) FFA program recently earned a grant through the Newton Education Foundation and Georgia Farm Bureau that allowed for the purchase of $2,500 in agriculture-based children’s books for the Newton County School System (NCSS).

According to Cecily Gunter, NCCA FFA advisor, FFA members will deliver a selection of the books to elementary schools throughout the district to assist younger students in learning and improving their reading skills.

“While assisting with reading, FFA members will also develop fun and interacting activities to go along with the books to keep students engaged and excited about reading and agriculture,” Gunter explained.

In addition to providing books for the schools, NCCA FFA members also donated over 500 of the children’s books to the NCSS Book Bus so students can read them over the summer break.

“The hope of this donation is that students have access to reading material and learn the importance of agriculture in their daily lives through agricultural literacy,” said Gunter.
