East Newton Elementary School fourth-grade teacher Julie Thompson is Newton County School System’s (NCSS) 2013 Teacher of the Year! As NCSS Teacher of the Year, Thompson will now represent the school system in the Georgia Teacher of the Year program.

Thompson was awarded numerous prizes after her name was announced at the Newton County School System Teacher of the Year reception, including a check for $1,000 from the Newton County Chamber of Commerce Chamber Champions and a $500 gift card from Kroger. She also received three-month’s free car rental from Covington Ford, a Kroger gift basket, a crystal vase award from the Chamber of Commerce, and one dozen roses.

Fellow finalists Kim Malcom of South Salem Elementary School and Whitney Jackson of Veterans Memorial Middle School each received a $250 gift card and gift basket from Kroger, and a crystal vase award from the Newton County Chamber of Commerce.
