PRESS RELEASE

Covington, GA – May 21, 2013  The Newton Education Foundation is pleased to announce this year’s recipients of the Spring 2013 Classroom Grant competition.  In April, the Foundation announced that it would fund grants at each school level- elementary school, middle school, and high school. Any Newton County School System teacher could apply for the grants, which could be used to pay for a wide variety of innovative instructional projects and materials.  The Foundation received over two dozen applications from deserving teachers across the Newton County School System.  Dr. Jami Berry, Grant Sub-Committee Member, stated, “The committee was extremely impressed with both the number of grant applications and the quality of this round’s funded grants.  The funded grants will touch hundreds of students at four schools across all three educational levels.  We were especially excited to be able to fund four grants rather than three because we know that doing so allows even more teachers and schools to integrate innovative approaches into their instructional practices.”  The Foundation awarded close to five- thousand dollars in grants to the following teachers and projects:

We congratulate each of the teachers for their innovative ideas and look forward to seeing their projects come to life!  The Grants were awarded at the May Board of Education meeting. The Newton Education Foundation is a local, independent, non-profit 501(c) (3) corporation founded in 2009 to create a culture of support for public education in Newton County.  Our goal is simple:  to raise private dollars for public education.  We continue with our annual campaign, Re-Imagine Newton, to fund future grant programs.
