The Newton County School System is pleased to announce the winners of the 2013 Young Georgia Authors’ Contest. Each school could submit one entry per grade level for grades kindergarten through 12 in the county competition in the form of short stories, poetry, essays, journals, personal narratives, reports, or other original student writing.

Newton County’s winning essays were forwarded to the Georgia Department of Education, where they will be grouped and judged according to the system’s Regional Educational Services Agency (RESA). Winners at the district level competition will then compete in the state competition.  Representing Newton County Schools in the district competition are the following 2013 grade-level winners:

“We are very proud of the students who participated in the Young Georgia Authors Competition,” said Samantha Fuhrey, Deputy Superintendent for Newton County Schools.  “Writing is an important skill to have so this was definitely a great learning experience for all of the students.  Newton County has some very good potential authors. We wish each of our winners well in the RESA competition.”
