The Newton County School System has been awarded the prestigious 18th Annual Achievement of Excellence in Procurement Award (AEP) for 2013 from the National Purchasing Institute (NPI).

The award recognizes excellence in procurement by measuring organizations against standardized benchmarks that represent best practices within the profession. These criteria include innovation, professionalism, e-procurement, productivity, and leadership.  The Newton County School System was one of only 23 school systems throughout the United States and Canada to receive the award for 2013. This is the second consecutive year the procurement department has won the AEP Award.

“I am very proud of our team,” said Greg Goins, procurement coordinator for the school system.  “Their ongoing commitment to quality, professional development and public service is evidenced in their work.  The AEP Award is validation, by leaders of the procurement profession, of those efforts.”

In addition to NPI, the Achievement of Excellence in Procurement Award is sponsored and recognized by over a dozen professional public procurement associations and organizations, including the National Association of State Procurement Officials (NASPO), the National Association of Educational Procurement (NAEP), and the National Institute of Governmental Procurement (NIGP).

“The procurement team has sought to continuously improve processes through the adoption and implementation of nationally recognized best practices in public procurement,” said Michael Barr, director of support services for the school system.  “Further, the team has embraced organizational learning, strategic goal setting and evidence based decision making as part of its continuous improvement efforts.  I am grateful for their dedication and focus that make receiving such awards possible.”
