East Newton Teachers on a One-Minute Shopping Spree!

Teachers at East Newton Elementary got a bit of a surprise at a recent faculty meeting when they learned they had been entered into a drawing to win one of twenty $50 gift cards courtesy of the local Walmart on Industrial Boulevard—a $1,000 donation for the teachers to purchase needed classroom supplies.

For the fifth straight year, assistant manager Dan Brown has donated $1,000 to teachers at a Newton County public elementary school.

"We select a local elementary school each year based on nominations from our associates,” said Brown. “This year East Newton received multiple nominations so we were very pleased to designate them as our 2013 Teacher Rewards recipient."

Brown added, “Teacher Rewards has put $5000 directly into the hands of Newton County teachers since its inception. Walmart realizes that our community's teachers spend a great deal out of their own pockets to insure their students have everything they need to be successful. Teacher Rewards is our way of recognizing the tremendous contribution of their personal time and money that our teachers make every year."

So no one got left out, Brown also brought along several large boxes of school supplies; those teachers who didn’t win a gift card got a free, one minute shopping spree and as a result, loaded up on much needed supplies for their classrooms and students.

“This support is just overwhelming,” said Kim Coady, principal of East Newton Elementary School. “You hear so much negative news about education; it’s just nice to have something so positive. Our local Walmart is very community oriented and we do appreciate all the support they provide. It was good to see the teachers have so much fun to day and we thank Walmart for that.”
