The Academy of Liberal Arts at Newton High School (ALANHS) is currently conduction registration for the 2014-2015 school year. Newton County School System students currently enrolled in the eighth grade whose parents reside in Newton County are eligible to apply. Applications for admission are available on both the Newton County School System homepage and the Newton High School website. Completed applications must be received by the Counseling Office of the student’s zone/home middle school no later than the end of the school day February 28, 2014. All students and parents interested in learning more about the ALANHS Program are encouraged to attend the ALANHS Open House Night on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at Newton High School.

The Academy of Liberal Arts at Newton High School is an intense four-year academic experience that prepares students for the rigors of the university studies.  It is distinguished from other academic environments by providing participating students with a rigorous, accelerated curriculum, four years of inquiry-based instruction, partnership with Oxford College of Emory University, other collegiate partner and sustained community involvement. The ALANHS program provides highly motivated college-bound students with the opportunity to pursue a rigorous STEM and liberal arts curriculum.

In addition to the ALANHS application packet, prospective students must also submit four completed evaluation forms, including one from each of the following: counselor, eighth-grade language arts teacher; eighth-grade social studies teacher; and eighth-grade connections teacher (fine arts field). Students applying for ALANHS must also provide a copy of their official transcripts, which can be obtained from their middle school counselor.

Once completed applications have been submitted, each prospective student should plan to sit for an interview during the time period of March 10-March, 21, 2014. The interview process will include an audition piece which will vary depending on the talent area in which the student auditions. For example, a student who is interested in social science may present a social science fair project while a student who is a pianist may play a piece for the interview panel.

The total number of students being accepted into the 2014-2015 ALANHS Cohort has been limited to 28 and finalists. Finalists will be notified on April 25 and must confirm acceptance no later than Friday, May 2, 2014 at 3:30 p.m. Waitlist finalists will be on standby until May 5, 2014.
