Teacher Professional Learning

The month of SEPTEMBER’s instructional focus for the district is DEDUCTIVE REASONING. Deductive reasoning is defined as "supporting generalizations with specific details";reasoning from the general to the specific; deductions are based in facts and rules. An example of a deduction is a "Syllogism":

  • All poodles are dogs (major premise).
  • All dogs are animals (minor premise).
  • Therefore, all poodles are animals (conclusion).

It is the opposite of INDUCTIVE REASONING where you use specific details to make a generalization.
