The mission of the library media program is to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information.

Teen Read Week Teen Read Week is an initiative of the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA). Teen Read Week started in 1998. Libraries across the world celebrate Teen Read Week with a variety of special events and programs aimed at encouraging teens to read for pleasure and to visit their libraries for free reading materials.

Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl
Originated by Helen Ruffin, a Media Specialist in the DeKalb County School System, the Reading Bowl is a reading competition in game format, open to students in 4th through 12th grades. The Georgia Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl use only the original 20 titles on the Georgia Book Awards nominees list and the 20 titles on the Georgia Peach Teen Book Award nominees list.

Peach Book Award for Teen Readers
Students can win $20 for reading a Georgia Peach Book Award for Teen Readers nominated book.
Three winners will be announced at the end of each month (February & March).
Library Week National Library Week is an annual celebration of the contributions of our nation's libraries and librarians. Activities planned will be similar to Teen Read Week. [top]
The purpose of the Georgia Peach Book Award for Teen Readers is to highlight and promote the best current young adult
literature for Georgia high school age students, to encourage young adults to read and to promote the development

of cooperative school and public library services for young adults. Teens vote for their favorite books out of the year's top 20 nominees at their high schools and local public libraries.

Goals:
  • * To encourage Georgia young adults in grades 9-12 to recognize and read quality literature appropriate to their needs, interests, and reading levels.
  • * To honor outstanding works in young adult literature.
  • * To recognize authors in the field of young adult literature.
  • * To develop cooperative school and public library services to teens.
