A graduate of one of Newton County's historic schools, the former R. L. Cousins High School, Mr. Almond Turner has also taken an active part in the development of our county by serving as the Assistant Chief of the City of Covington Police Department.
Mr. Turner was elected by his peers on the Board of Education to serve the 1999 year as chairman. He brings an educational background in criminal justice to the Board, in addition to being a graduate from the National F.B.I. Academy.
While serving on the Board, Mr. Turner has been instrumental in instituting a policy on employee dress and initiating an employee survey. Mr. Turner's major emphasis is on school safety and encouraging open communication between teachers, principals and parents.
In the community he serves on the boards of the Covington YMCA, Kids Net, Newton County Community Partnership, and the Planning Board of the Center. He also plays the trumpet in the Newton County Community Band, and is a member of Springfield Baptist Church.
Mr. Turner and his wife Anita have been married for 37 years. They have three children: Dwahn, Shaye and Shundra.
