GOALS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION

Georgia law provides the legal framework within which the Newton County Board of Education was established and within which it functions.

The Constitution of the State of Georgia of 1988 provides for the establishment of county boards of education and vests in them the control and management of the county school district. (Art. 8, Sec. 5, Par. 2)

The county board of education shall ". make all arrangements necessary to the efficient operation of the school." (20-2-520)

Thus, the goals of the Newton County Board of Education must be:

1. To control and manage the Newton County School District through the policies which they are empowered to adopt and enforce, and

2. To make all arrangements necessary to the efficient operation of the schools in the Newton County School District.

The Board shall adopt such sub-goals and enabling objectives as needed to meet these stated goals.
