OFFICERS OF THE BOARD
Date: JANUARY 4, 1999

At the annual meeting of the Newton County Board of Education, the Board shall elect from its membership a chairperson and vice-chairperson to assume duties immediately upon adjournment of such meeting.

The Superintendent shall serve as ex officio secretary, treasurer, and parliamentarian of the Board of Education. The Superintendent may designate an employee to perform recording, clerical, and parliamentary duties.

The Board may elect other such officers as it shall determine necessary for the effective and efficient operation of the Board.

In the absence of both chairperson and vice-chairperson, the members present shall elect an interim chairperson to preside over and conduct the meeting, the Superintendent to conduct such election.

In the event a vacancy is created by death, resignation, mental or physical incapacity or other cause determined by the Board, in the offices of chairperson and vice chairperson, an election shall be held to fill the office for the unexpired term within 30 days.
