SELECTION OF SCHOOL BOARD ATTORNEY

The Newton County Board of Education shall select and retain a school board attorney. The attorney shall advise the Board upon request in matters of land acquisition, the issuance and sale of school bonds, personnel grievances, superintendent's contract, and any other such school system matters as the Board or Superintendent may deem appropriate.
The school board attorney may be authorized by the Board to defend its members and employees in cases which the Board deems appropriate. When such defense is authorized, the Board shall pay attorney fees thereafter. The selection of a school board attorney will be for a three-year period, contingent upon satisfactory performance in the opinion of the Board.
Consideration will be placed on experience, knowledge of public school law, and satisfactory performance in governmental and/or school-related issues.
