BOARD MEETINGS - REGULAR
Date: JANUARY 4, 1999

The Newton County Board of Education shall hold a regularly scheduled meeting at least once each month. The time, date, and place of these meetings shall be established each year at the annual meeting in January and the same shall be published in the official county organ for two consecutive weeks following the setting of said time, date, and place. Such information shall be available to the general public and a notice containing such information shall be posted and maintained in a conspicuous place available to the public at the regular meeting place of the Board. Meetings shall be held in accordance with a regular schedule but nothing in the law precludes the Board from canceling or postponing any regularly scheduled meetings.

The date of this regular meeting cannot be changed more often than once every twelve months and, if changed, the new date shall be published as above provided, except that if the date of the meeting falls on a legal holiday, such meeting shall be held on the next succeeding business day.

If a quorum is not present at a meeting, it shall be adjourned, to be reconvened at the call of the chairperson.

All regular meetings of the Board shall be open to the public and at these meetings shall transact business properly brought before it.

The Board may meet in executive session in compliance with law.

Recording during open meetings shall be permitted. The assembling together of a quorum of the members of the Board or committee for the purpose of making inspections of physical facilities under the jurisdiction of the Board or for the purposes of meeting with the governing bodies, officers, agents, or employees of other agencies at places outside the geographical -jurisdiction of the Board and at which no final official action is to be taken shall not be deemed a "meeting."
