As leaders in technology, we strive to create teachers and students who are visionaries in the classroom. In an effort to foster this creativity, the Newton County School System Technology Department annually hosts the “Innovation Expo” as a friendly competition between schools to see who can develop the most innovative school or classroom technology-based idea.
The idea behind the Innovation Expo is to grow a culture of innovation in Newton County Schools. Our purpose for hosting the Innovation Expo is to create an environment in which teachers are thinking innovatively when it comes to engaging students and achieving depth of knowledge.
This Expo will showcase one team from every school. Teams will be categorized into one of three divisions: Elementary, Middle, and High. The teams from each school will consist of five members: The Technology Teacher Leader, the Media Specialist, one classroom teacher, and two other members that are selected by the team. These additional members can include other teachers, para pros, students, administrators, parents, and/or even community members.
Each team will be tasked with developing a technology rich innovative idea that can be implemented in the classroom next school year. Teams will present their ideas on January 29, 2016 to Newton County teachers and community members to compete for the Innovative Educators of the Year Award at each division level. This award will consist of two components: innovation implementation and cash prizes. Each division’s winning idea will be funded and implemented in the winning school for the next school year and each team member on the winning teams will receive a $300 gift card. Judging for each idea will be done by the audience. Each member of the audience will vote for the top 3 innovations.
This year’s event will be held on January 29, 2016 from 1:00 pm until 5:00 pm at Newton High School’s auditorium located at 1 Ram Way, Covington, GA 30014.
The Newton County School System has taken on the obligation of preparing the next generation of innovative leaders, creators, producers, and performers and we believe that the Innovation Expo is the cornerstone of making this happen. Your support is vital to the implementation and success of this event. We are currently looking for various businesses to be sponsors for this event. Our sponsorship levels include the Expo Sponsor, Award Sponsors, and Supporting Sponsors.
