Eastside Clubs
Academic Team - Advisor - Eric Adams -The Academic Team consists of students interested in competing with students from other schools in all academic areas including Literature, Math, Science, Social Studies, Fine Arts, and Current Events. Eastside has a varsity and a junior varsity team. To be on the Academic Team, a student must be able to come to practice on a consistent basis and make an effort to improve as a player and learn. Students must be serious about committing to the club. Club meeting days vary but are usually Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The main objective of this club is to improve students academically and intellectually.

Art Club - Advisor -Whitney Panetta -

Beta Club - Advisors - Angela Lewis and Kelly Weininger – The motto of this club is “Let us Lead by Serving Others.” Members participate and volunteer for several activities throughout the year including: Relay for Life, Special Olympics, Foster Care Christmas Party, Holiday Food Drive, Prom Promise, and several charity fundraisers such as Cystic Fibrosis and Muscular Dystrophy. Students must have a GPA of 90 or higher with no (or minor) discipline record to be a member of the club.  Applications are available from either sponsor.  Dues are a one-time fee of $20 unless a member becomes inactive. The Beta Club is part of a national organization founded to recognize academic achievement, promote character, develop leadership skills, and encourage service involvement.

DECA - - Advisor - Nikyta Belser -prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe. 
Drama - Advisor - Lindsey Beaumont - To be in this club , one should have an interest in the theatre and entertainment industry, not just acting. There are no dues for this club, and members will usually meet on Wednesdays once or twice a month.
FBLA - Advisor - Marilou Grimes - Future Business Leaders of America trains students to become the buisness leaders of tomorrow. They participate in activities such as the Fall State Motivational Rally, the Fall State Leadership Conference, and the Regional Leadership Conference and Competition. To join FBLA, one must simply be interested in being a buisness leader. There is a $15 membership fee.
FCA - Advisor - Jason Stokes - FCA is a club for Christian students, not necessarily atheletes. Students spend time discussing scriptures and devotionals, as well as participating in FCA Day and Toys for Tots drive.
FCCLA - Advisor -Trina Nixon - To join FCCLA, students must have taken Eastside's Family Consumer Science class at Eastside or currently be in one. There is a one-time $15 membership fee. The club's goal is to promote indvidual growth and leadership through family and consumer science education. This club helps prepare students for adulthood and helps to strengthen families as a basic unit of society. FCCLA participates in many community, family, and career activities, and competitions, such as Family First, FACTS, Power of Ones, and STAR events.
FFA - Advisor -Stephanie Summerlin - Purpose of this club is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success. It is preferred that a studetn take or plan to take an agriculture class during the school year to join the club. The club participates in chapter meeting, community services, the state and national convention, Region Rally, supervised agricultural experiences, and career development events. The dues are $15 per year.

Image Club - Advisors - LaKeisha Eason -

Mission or Purpose of the Image Club

The objective of the club is to help prepare young ladies to succeed, personally, spiritually, mentally, and academically. The Image club is designed to help lead them into their own destiny by exposing the young ladies to positive attitudes, images, and situations introducing them to the community as young ladies who are on a mission to be successful in life. To enter the club, one must have a GPA of at least a 3.0, no disciplinary records and pay a $20 membership fee. The club meets once a month on Saturday's.

Description of Past / Planned Activities

PAST/PLANNED – Get to know you “Weekender”, Volunteer for Special Olympics, Mother-Daughter Luncheon, Girl-Friend Luncheon, Volunteer at the nursing home (Thanksgiving and Christmas), Adopt a family for Christmas, College visits, Volunteer at church festival, Christmas banquet, Volunteer at Elementary School, Big Sister Program, Clothing drive for shelters, Cultural Visits (Arts, Museum, Plays, etc.), Saturday meetings/Motivational Speakers, End of Year Formal (Gala).

Interact Club - Advisor - Ginger Black - Interact is a Rotary-sponsored service club that gives young people an opportunity to participate in fun, meaningful service projects while developing leadership skills. It's open to students in grades 10-12. This club offers students a chance to become involved in the community and it promotes leadership possibilities and good will towards others. To join the Interact Club, one must be in at least the tenth grade, have two teacher recommendations, have a respectable discipline record, and be in good academic standing. Members participate in the local Rotary Club pack Christmas gifts for families in need. They also send Christmas cards to soldiers serving overseas and assist with Newton County Special Olympics. There are no dues for this club. Meetings are once a month.
Junior Classical League - Advisor - Mr. Eric Adams - This club promotes the studies of the classics, which include Greek and Latin. To be in the JCL, one must take, have taken, or plan to take Latin. Members of the club participate in the Fall Forum, the GJCL, State Convention, and various certamen events. The dues for the club are $20. Most meetings are on the first Wednesday of each month.
Junior Servic Guild- Advisors - Mrs. Tina Daniels - This club's objective is to serve the community. Members participate in blood drives, Pennies for Patients, The Links, Adopt-a-Class, animal shelter donations, Project Renewal, and domestic violence prevention. To join the Junior Service Guild, one must be a female and pay $25 for dues. There are two meetings per month, one in the morning and one in the evening.

Literary Team - Advisor - Kimberly McCullers - Consists of several areas (spelling, dramatic interpretation, extemporaneous speaking, essay, One-Act Play, solo, quartet, and trio) in which members practice and compete at the Region and State levels. To join the Literary Team, one must try out by writing an essay, giving an extemporaneous speech, doing a dramatic interpretation, or showing exceptional spelling skills. There is no fee to join.

Naturalist Club - Advisors - - This club helpd students aquire an ecological education and an appreciation of the natural world. The members of this club participate in many activities including bird watching, hiking, visiting organic farms and water sheds, and camping. There are no fees and meetings are every Wednesday from 3:30 to 4:00 p.m. to be in the Naturalist Club one must have an interest in the environment and a love of the outdoors.
Prom Committee - Advisors - Mrs. Trina Nixon. - This program plans for the prom and raises money to keep the ticket prices low. To join the Prom Committee, one must be a junior, fill out an application, write an essay, and participate in the first fund raiser. There is no entrance fee and no regular meeting schedule.
Key Club - Advisor - Alan Fowler - The Key Club is a club in which students give back to their society. Students must have a desire to contribute to the community in order to be in the Key Club. The members participate in activities such as a coat drive, Relay for Life, and reading to children. The club is the largest student organization in the world. It is a branch of the Kiwanis Club and teaches students that caring about one's community and humanity is important. The dues are $25, which includes a T-shirt and International Key Club dues. Club meetings are every second and fourth Wednesday of the month.

Student Council - Sponsor -Keya Clay- The purpose of the Student Council is to support the student body and represent it in school function. Activities involve Sponsoring homecoming activities and offering scholarships in the spring for deserving graduating seniors.

Wingspan - Sponsor - Kathy Williams - The Wingspan is not a club but a class which designs and produces the school newspaper. Each year the class is involved in "Read Across America Day" where the members go to Middle Ridge Elementary school and read to the students.

Talon - Advisor - Amanda Watson - The Talon is not a club but a class which designs and produces the school yearbook. Applications for staff are taken each semester and admittance to the class is by invitation only.
