Alcovy Teacher Wins $5,000 Dart Foundation Grant

Alcovy High School juniors and seniors will soon have new STEM equipment to create robots from scratch for their capstone projects. Mr. Zachary Pitts, an engineering, manufacturing and robotics instructor at the school, recently won a $5,000 grant from the Dart Foundation to purchase the new equipment.

Superintendent Accepting Applications for Student Advisory Council

Newton County School Superintendent Samantha Fuhrey is accepting applications from students currently enrolled in the 7th Grade for her Student Advisory Council. Students who wish to apply for the Council should complete an essay packet and return it to Ms. Sherri Davis in the Newton County School System Department of Public Relations by Monday, August 27, 2018. The address is 2109 Newton Drive NE, Covington, Georgia, 30014. In lieu of sending through U.S. Mail, students may ask their school principal to place their completed essay/application packet in the school interdepartmental mail system.

Hello, How Can We Help You?:
An Introduction to the Special Education Department
of the Newton County School System


Join us at our first workshop of the year to get to know our NCSS Special Education Leadership and Staff during an informal evening of introductions and discussion. During the session, you will meet administrators and faculty from various departments and schools, hear stories of how special education became their passion, and learn more about how our resources can help you make this your student’s best year yet. Featuring a welcome by NCSS Superintendent Samantha Fuhrey and presentations by Eastside High School’s Teacher of the Year Beth Bowman, Special Education Director Brooke Ramsey, and more, this is a workshop you’ll not want to miss. Arrive early and board the NCSS Book Bus to select free books for your child! Child care will be available with pre-registration, as space is limited. We’ll be looking forward to seeing you and getting to know you better!
