Important Information

The Georgia Milestones End of Grade Assessments (EOG)
will be administered to all students in grades three through eight,
the weeks of April 14-24.
Actual tests and dates are:

         English Language Arts                          April 14-15
 Math                                                      April 16
 Science                                                 April 20
Social Studies                                     April 21

The Georgia Milestones EOG is designed to measure student acquisition of the skills and knowledge described in the state’s Georgia Performance Standards (GPS). The assessments will yield information on academic achievement at the student, class, school, system, and state levels. This information will serve a dual purpose. One—to diagnose individual student strengths and weaknesses in relation to the instruction of the GPS, and two—to provide program evaluation data to gauge the quality of education throughout the state of Georgia.

According to Newton County School System Director of Testing, Dr. Allison Jordan, parents and guardians can help ensure that students do their very best during this testing period by:

  • Making sure your child gets plenty of rest each night of testing;
  • Providing nutritious dinners and breakfasts daily;
  • Encouraging your child daily to listen carefully to the instructions;
  • Making sure that your child gets to school on time each morning of testing; and
  • Ensuring your child has his/her prescribed eyewear (if needed).

Once testing has begun, classes cannot be interrupted, e.g. check-outs. Being late to school might prevent your child from receiving a complete score report once testing is completed. Only students who have unavoidable, unplanned absences are permitted to make up exams missed. Make-ups will be administered within the testing dates (April 14-24).

It is important to note that the Georgia Department of Education has prohibited students from bringing into the testing environment any electronic communication devices (cell phone, PDA, etc.) that could allow students access to information.
