School Council Meeting

January 19, 2010

· Meeting was called to order at 8:10 a.m. Introduction of school council members occurred:

Rebecca Sizemore- teacher rep.	Jodie Williams- parent rep.
Amanda Jackson- parent rep.	Nancy Mask- Newton Federal Bank
Samantha Jones- parent rep.	John Thompson- teacher rep.
Alan Satterfield-Principal	Corey Stegall- Assistant Principal
Maria Howell- teacher rep/translator	Valenti Rangel- parent rep.

No shows: Belinda Oliver, Suzanne McLean. Mr. Satterfield will call these members and remind them of the next meeting.

· State Training Power Point was viewed.

· Things to do at March meeting:

Look at School Improvement Plan, Look at school wide data, gather ideas

for new superintendent, review bylaws

· Officers were voted on by the council

· Times and Dates for next meetings were approved.

· 8:15 a.m. on March 2, April 13, May 11

· John Thompson made a suggestion to move elementary school start times to 9:00 a.m. He said we will be on the middle school schedule, that the kids get more sleep and are alert, and that students will be at the bus stop during daylight hours.

· Mr. Satterfield commented on our current attendance at school. Our current absentee rate is a little high because of the flu season occurring so early this year. He stated that the state is looking to possibly change the rules for AYP and attendance. Our population is in the 560’s and we do not have a lot of growth this year.

· Mr. Satterfield moved to adjourn at 8:54 a.m. It was seconded by Samantha Jones.
