School Council Meeting

March 2, 2010

·        Meeting was called to order at 8:21 a.m.  by Alan Satterfield.  Members were given a copy of the Ga. School Council Guidebook.

·        Members Present:

No shows:  Belinda Oliver, Amanda Jackson (illness), Nancy Mask (meeting), Samantha Jones. 

·        School Improvement Plan:

-discussed benchmark goals for school

-read mission, vision, and goals for school

-discussed professional learning activities

-read through measurable goals for grades K-5

-outlined instructional time throughout school day

·        Bylaws were discussed

·        Superintendent Suggestions:

-highly organized

-in schools (more visible at schools)

-vision/communication

-someone who understands the modern school system- not afraid to make changes

·        School Data:

-560+ students at school

-220 students will determine AYP

-88% free/reduced lunch

-discussed the SYD subgroups that make up our school

-discussed Safe Harbor: takes DNM category, 10% decrease in DNM category

-discussed testing- reteaching in May will occur because no summer school will be held this year

-DNM has to increase by 10%

·        Jodie Williams had to be excused at 9:03 a.m. to attend an observation at another school

·        Council discussed attendance issues

-economy issues

·        Title I monies:

-Palm Pilots, Books, Manipulatives

·        Mr. Satterfield moved to adjourn at 9:12 a.m.  It was seconded by others in committee.
