Faculty Overview:
The faculty and staff of Middle Ridge Elementary School strive to assist students in acquiring the knowledge
and mastering the skills needed to succeed as leaders, productive workers and responsible citizens in our rapidly
changing society.

Instructional Overview:
The faculty and staff of Middle Ridge Elementary believe by providing opportunities for parental involvement,
community support, and guidance are vital to the total learning experience. We believe that meaningful learning
experiences in a disciplined, safe and organized environment create student stability. We believe that a feeling
of self-worth and respect for authority and others helps to create life-long learners.
Each and every day we work to create this type of environment for our students in order to reach all the goals
set forth in our curriculum.

Community Overview:
Middle Ridge Elementary School, located at 11649 South Covington Bypass Road, Covington, Georgia, opened its
doors in the fall of 1997 with 582 students. Middle Ridge is two miles from the city of Porterdale and three miles from
Covington. The student population comes from five different school districts, Heard-Mixon, Porterdale, Ficquett,
Livingston and Fairview.
The enrollment numbers have steadily increased prompting a ten classroom addition to be built. It was completed and
occupied in August, 2003.
The school extends the school community through collaborative efforts that support student learning.
Community members outside of the school participate in academic enhancement programs within the school.
Programs such as Key Club tutoring, Literacy Volunteers of America Book Buddy program, D.A.R.E. (Drug Awareness
and Resistance Education) program, and Newton County 4-H program support the total learning program. Volunteers
sign in each time they visit the school and a log is kept of their participation with the students. Community members are
invited into the school to provide learning opportunities to students through reading and speaking engagements.

School System Curriculum Overview:
Students in the Newton County Schools receive well-rounded, developmentally appropriate curriculum services.
Students are expected to complete studies in the areas of language arts (which includes reading, spelling, writing, grammar,
vocabulary, listening, and speaking), mathematics, science/health, social studies, music, art , physical education, and
handwriting. Curriculum objectives are based upon state and local requirements thus ensuring that all students receive
comprehensive instruction in all areas of study. Further information regarding elementary curriculum practices may be
obtained from the school principal or assistant principal.
