Grading Practices Progress reports will be sent home each nine weeks to notify parents of their child's current academic and social development. Teachers will schedule at least two conferences during the school year at specially scheduled school conference days to discuss a child's progress with his/her parents. Other conferences may also be requested. Please make every effort to attend conferences requested by school personnel. Your child's academic and social growth depends upon strong support and encouragement from you! |
Homework GuidelinesHomework is an important extension of schoolwork and allows students time to practice skills learned during the school day. Parents are encouraged to provide a setting for homework that allows the child to concentrate on the assignment. Best results are obtained when homework is done at a consistent time and place. Listed below are general guidelines for homework. Keep in mind that time required to complete homework can vary from student to student, depending on individual work habits. |

GaCRCT Test Information In order to help students better prepare, Riverside Publishing Company has designed a website to make online practice tests available. Each student has a logon name and password which gives them access to a list of tests available. |
Media Center & Technology We have added the Accelerated Reader Quiz List to our website. Currently there are 8,849 books in the Media Center at Heard Mixon that are part of the Accelerated Reader Program. |

QuestThe Quest program is designed to provide challenging, enriching activities for gifted students. The curriculum is based on the state learning objectives for grades one through five. National Junior Beta Club The purpose of the Junior Beta Club is to recognize fifth grade students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of academics, commendable character, and leadership. Once inducted into the club, the members plan and carry out service projects to benefit the school. |

Star Kids TV Star Kids TV is broadcast live each morning at 7:45 a.m. and includes morning announcements, a student book review, and the Pledge of Allegiance and National Anthem. For the 2007-2008 school year, there will be four STAR Kids news teams. Each news team is comprised of three anchors, a sound person, a camera person and a director. |
Chorus The chorus annually performs for the Retired Teacher's Luncheon, the December PTO meeting, Cultural Arts Day, and the Fifth Grade Honors Night. For each of these functions, the chorus prepares songs appropriate to the occasion. Students from throughout the county come together for Honors Chorus, which is comprised of ten fifth grade chorus members from each elementary school. |

Art Club The Art Club's purpose is for students to gain a deeper understanding of the visual arts through special community projects, in-school projects, school district projects, exhibits, art contests, and art lessons using materials unavailable to the regular art classroom. |
Running Club The Running Club promotes good health and wellness skills in students. |
