Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How do I enroll my child in the Newton County School System?

Children who have reached their fourth birthday on or before September 1 of the current academic year are eligible for pre-kindergarten, while those that will reach their fifth birthday on or before September 1 are eligible to enroll in kindergarten. When enrolling a child into the Newton County School System, the following items are necessary:

  • State-Certified Original Birth Certificate
  • Appropriate Immunization Record (includes Certificate of Ear, Eye and Dental)
  • Student's Social Security Card
  • Student's Most Recent Report Card
  • Two (2) Proofs of Residence
  • Students in grades 7-12 must provide a copy of their discipline record from previous school (no exceptions)

It is helpful if parents have a copy of past grades, test scores, and other records sent to the new school prior to registration. A withdrawal form from a previous school and unofficial transcript or report card will provide proof of prior school enrollment.

Parents must show proof of residency (such as current utility bill mailed to the home address) when registering children. Legal guardians should provide proof of custody/guardianship if the child does not live with one or both parents. Children may be registered at the designated school within the attendance zone in which the parent/guardian resides.

The name and location of schools serving a residential area may be obtained by calling the Newton County Central Office/Administrative Building at (770) 787-1330, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
