Newton County Theme School at Ficquett School Web Site
Original building built in 1956
Classroom Additions/Renovations: 1988, 1999, 2000, and 2001
Focus
The elementary theme school will focus on parent involvement and will require parents to be a vital part of the education program. A committee of parents will work with the principal to devise a parent/student contract for their school. The committee will also decide which parental activities will be approved to meet the requirement of specified numbers of volunteer hours a year and other pertinent issues, such as the wearing of school uniforms.
Special Features
The new elementary theme school may pilot special features, such as: the development and implementation of a program which integrates research-centered/hands-on projects; the requirement of higher order problem solving and critical thinking, particularly in the areas of math and science; and increased reading assignments at home that are continued throughout the summer.
Transportation
Transportation will be provided on a limited basis to and from designated stops throughout the county.
Directions (From Atlanta) Travel east on I-20 to exit 92 (Alcovy Road) and turn right. Follow the road through the Highway 278 intersection to the four-way stop at Elm Street and turn left. Ficquett is on the left at the top of the hill.
