Newton County Schools Announces Dr. Gregory Brown as Principal of Heard-Mixon Elementary School
Newton County Schools is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. Gregory Brown as the new principal of Heard-Mixon Elementary School, succeeding Dr. Angelia Cameron, who is retiring after a distinguished career.
Dr. Brown brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of educational leadership to his new role. He began his career in Miami-Dade County, where he served as a 5th-grade teacher before becoming an assistant principal at Parkview Elementary School. His career trajectory includes administrative roles at North Miami Beach High School/Biomedical Magnet and Pine Street Elementary School in Rockdale County. He also served as principal of the Alpha Academy for seven years and later founded a company focused on parent/student advocacy and consulting.
Dr. Brown joined Newton County Schools as a teacher at Veterans Memorial Middle School and West Newton Elementary School. He was promoted to assistant principal at West Newton in December 2020 before transferring to Live Oak Elementary School, where he has served for the past two years as an assistant principal.
Expressing his enthusiasm for his new position, Dr. Brown said, "Heard-Mixon Elementary School has established itself as a 'destination school' with a committed and passionate staff. I am humbled by the opportunity to lead this amazing group of educators and to contribute to the ongoing success of Heard-Mixon.”
Dr. Brown's initial focus will be on observing and understanding the unique dynamics of Heard-Mixon, getting to know the staff, and engaging with the community to identify their needs and aspirations. "I want to learn about the community and find out how I can help take Heard-Mixon from good to great," he stated. "We will be the hardest working, fastest improving school in this district, with a culture that is top-notch and a staff that is second to none."
Reflecting on his time at Live Oak Elementary, Dr. Brown expressed deep appreciation for the support and camaraderie he experienced. "I am forever a Live Oak Lion! Dr. (Tiffany) Richardson's leadership has created an environment where teachers and students thrive. I will miss the people I served with; they are not just my teammates; they are my family."
Superintendent Dr. Duke Bradley, III, welcomed Dr. Brown's appointment, stating, "Dr. Gregory Brown's dedication to education and his extensive experience make him an excellent choice for principal of Heard-Mixon Elementary School. We are confident that under his leadership, HMES will continue to excel and achieve new heights."
