Newton County Board of Education Adopts 2025 Legislative Priorities

Legislative PrioritiesThe Newton County Board of Education has officially adopted its legislative priorities for 2025. These priorities outline the Board’s focus areas for advocacy and collaboration with lawmakers to advance public education and meet the diverse needs of Newton County Schools.

The priorities emphasize key areas including:

• Funding & Resources: Advocacy for equitable funding formulas that address unique district needs, modernization of the Quality Basic Education (QBE) formula, and measures to offset rising health insurance costs for school employees.

• Teaching & Learning: Support for balanced accountability systems that fairly evaluate student and teacher performance, as well as advancing digital equity to ensure all students have access to high-speed internet.

• Mental Health & Wellbeing: Expanded access to mental health resources for students and training for educators to better support emotional and mental health needs.

• Safety & Security: Strengthening safety measures in schools and advocating for resources to combat cyber threats and disruptive behaviors.

• Fortifying Public Education: Empowering local school districts and establishing accountability measures for voucher programs.
