We want to make you aware that the Canvas learning management system is currently unavailable due to a nationwide cybersecurity incident involving Instructure, the third-party company that provides the Canvas platform used by students and teachers.
Canvas is currently inaccessible for students, parents, and staff.
While Canvas has reported that the issue has been resolved, Newton County Schools is working through implementing additional safety precautions and security measures before restoring full access to the platform. At this time, we do not have an estimated timeline for when service will be fully restored. Please know that this issue does not involve the internal technology systems of Newton County Schools.
According to information provided by Instructure, student passwords, social security numbers, and financial information were not involved. Newton County Schools does not share social security numbers or financial data with Canvas.
Our teachers and staff are working to make temporary instructional adjustments to minimize disruptions to student learning while Canvas remains offline.
Our district technology and teaching and learning teams remain in regular communication with the vendor and are closely monitoring updates as they become available.
We appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate this situation together. Additional updates and guidance will be shared with families as more information becomes available.
Thank you for your continued support of Newton County Schools and our students.
