The Communications Department strives to provide students, parents, community members and the media with timely, concise information on special events and news stories related to the Newton County School System. The department is responsible for promoting student achievement through press releases, the district website, print materials, and the system's electronic newsletter. The department also oversees the school system's website and social media campaigns, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube. In addition, the Communications Department utilizes School Messenger, the district's instant telephone calling system to provide parents with important school system news. The department is also responsible for the design and content of district public relations materials.
The Office of Communications answers all media inquiries from reporters, coordinates interviews with students and staff and handles all Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and Georgia Open Record Act requests. In addition, the Communications Department is responsible for the district's Partners in Education program and numerous special events and recognition ceremonies, including the Teacher of the Year program, HERO Awards program for classified staff, the Mid-Year Awards program celebrating the Media Specialist of the Year, Support Professional of the Year, and the Counselor of the Year, as well as the annual Employee Retirement Dinner.
