Newton County Schools is proud to announce that sophomore Evan Brunner was selected to participate in the prestigious 2024 Georgia All-State Band. This achievement highlights Evan's exceptional talent and dedication to his musical craft as a member of the Newton High School Symphonic Band, where he plays the alto saxophone.
According to Newton High School band director, Jason Smith, Evan's selection is a testament to his hard work and musical ability. "Evan is an extraordinary musician who has shown tremendous dedication and growth. His selection for the All-State Band is a well-deserved recognition of his efforts and talent," said Smith.
The selection process for the Georgia All-State Band is highly competitive and only a select number of students from across the state are chosen to participate, making Evan's accomplishment even more significant.
Evan has been a part of band since his middle school days at Indian Creek Middle School.
Reflecting on his journey, Evan shared, "This was my first time being selected for the All-State Band. One thing I like about band is being able to collaborate with other people for a goal bigger than ourselves. I got into music because my family is full of musicians; they were who inspired me."
Evan noted he was pleasantly surprised by his success in the audition process. "When I got selected, I was surprised I got second chair because of it being my first time making it, and it felt like my hard work had paid off. In the audition, I had to perform two preselected pieces, one slow and one fast. Then, I was required to perform a piece of music I had only been given 30 seconds to look over before performing."
Evan added, "I really enjoyed playing with the All-State Band. It is one of the best groups I have performed with, and it feels good to be playing with other people who worked just as hard as I did to get there."
Superintendent of Newton County Schools, Dr. Duke Bradley, III, extended his congratulations to Evan. "We are incredibly proud of Evan for his outstanding accomplishment. His selection for the All-State Band reflects not only his talent but also the strength of our music programs. Our dedicated educators and supportive community continue to nurture and develop stellar musicians."
