Dr. Penny MosleyBy unanimous vote, the Newton County Board of Education approved Dr. Penny Mosley as the new director of elementary education for the Newton County School System (NCSS). Dr. Mosley is currently the principal of Hightower Trail Elementary School in the Rockdale County Public School System.

“I am excited to join the Newton County family,” said Mosley, who will officially report to Newton County School System on Monday, March 4. “I look forward to working with everyone as we execute our mission of providing educational excellence for all students.”

Dr. Mosley earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education from Tennessee State University in 1999 and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Georgia State University in 2005. She added an Education Specialist Degree in Instructional Leadership from Argosy University in 2012 and obtained her Doctorate in Teaching and Learning from Argosy University in 2015.

A member of the National Educators Association, Dr. Mosley began her career as a teacher at the Narvie J. Harris Traditional Theme School in the DeKalb County School District in 1999. During her time at Narvie J. Harris, she taught pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, first, third, and fifth grades. Dr. Mosley was promoted to assistant principal at Edward L. Bouie Traditional Theme School in 2010 and served in that capacity with DeKalb County Schools District until 2015 when she was hired by Rockdale County Public Schools as the principal of Hightower Trail Elementary School.

“Dr. Mosley’s experience as an elementary school principal coupled with her expertise in curriculum and instruction equips her to be the leader of the Newton County School System’s elementary curriculum and instruction team,” said Samantha Fuhrey, superintendent of NCSS. “Her knowledge and skills will be instrumental in facilitating a culture of success and high expectations.”
