NCSS to Deploy Technology Devices to Assist Families With Virtual Learning
Posted on 08/19/2020
Technology Deployment, August 24-27, Check with Schools for DetailsNewton County School System officials recently made the decision to begin the school year with a virtual learning model for all students due to the rise in COVID-19 cases in the community. Unfortunately, some students may not have access to the necessary technology devices to participate in virtual learning. As a result, NCSS is offering parents the opportunity to borrow a technology device (Chromebook and/or internet hotspot) from the district at no charge. Many parents have already signed up to borrow a technology device; the deadline to make that selection is Wednesday, August 19.

According to Dr. Adam Phyall, NCSS Director of Technology, the various technology devices are scheduled to be distributed to parents and students during the week of August 24 to those who are in need and who have also submitted a request. The general schedule for distribution is as follows:

• Elementary Schools August 24, 25, & 26
• Middle Schools August 26 & 27
• High Schools August 24 & 25

“Our elementary and middle schools will contact parents to provide more details about specific pick-up times,” said Phyall. “High school students will need to sign up for an appointment window using the link provided on their school’s website. Those links will be posted on Thursday, August 20.”

Phyall noted that parents and guardians are required to complete a device user agreement for each device they check out for their student. Copies of the agreement will be available at the school at the time of pickup.

For more information on technology device distribution, visit your school’s website or contact your school’s office for more details.
