We are aware of a reported incident that took place earlier today in Barrow County, Georgia – approximately 40 miles away our school district. As an exercise of extreme caution, we are placing all Newton County Schools on a preventative lockdown. During this preventative lockdown, no person will be permitted to enter or leave our school buildings. Additionally, there will be increased law enforcement presence on our campuses as an added safety measure.
Rest assured that we are closely monitoring news reports and will maintain contact with local agencies throughout the day. Accordingly, we will also provide you with updates as may be necessary. As always, please know that the safety of our students and staff is our highest priority.
