Abigail Coggin was elected in November of 2010 to serve as the District 5 representative on the Newton County School Board. She is a life-long resident of Newton County and graduated from Newton County High School in 1992. She continued her education by graduating from Oxford College and Emory University with a Bachelors Degree in Political Science.

Throughout her college career, Abigail was employed as a staffer on many successful state-wide political campaigns and also served in the Georgia State Senate's Public Information Office. After graduation, her career continued as she served as Legislative Assistant to Lt. Governor Pierre Howard, Legislative Affairs Liasion for the Department of Corrections, and Public Information Officer for the Department of Corrections.

After marrying Newton County native Derek Coggin (physical education coach and teacher), they moved back home to Covington to begin a family. Abigail began working with the Arts Association in Newton County as the Young Artists Program Director soon after her first child was born. She currently serves as Operations Director for the Arts Association

Abigail and Derek are the proud parents of two children, Davis Shaw and Kathleen Hays, both students in the Newton County School System.
