Training Workshops

Newton County Schools (NCS) Human Resources Department offers FREE substitute teacher training sessions throughout the school year.  NCS we will continue to accept candidates who complete training through Griffin Regional Educational Service Agency (RESA), located in Griffin, Georgia. Those interested in attending the Griffin RESA training session must call 770-229-3247 to register and pay a $40.00 registration fee.

All interested candidates must:

  • Complete a half-day classroom observation - Applications are currently open for the October training. If you're still interested, please proceed with the steps below in the meantime.
  • Attend a training session – Successfully complete one of the approved training sessions (Newton County or Griffin RESA only).
  • Complete a half-day classroom observation – Gain hands-on experience in a classroom setting. You may choose any Newton County school of your choice.
  • Pass a criminal background check – Once both the training and half-day classroom observation are completed, please stop by the HR Department to complete your Substitute Payroll package and schedule your fingerprinting appointment.
    •  Note: Make sure to bring two forms of identification (e.g., picture ID and Social Security card or birth certificate) and a Bank Direct Deposit Authorization Form or voided check.
  •  Show a willingness and desire to work with all students – Demonstrate your enthusiasm and commitment to supporting every student’s success.

NCSS 2025-2026 Substitute Teacher Training Dates:

  • August 18, 2025 (Training Session filled)
  • September 15, 2025 (Training Session filled)
  • October 14, 2025
  • November 3, 2025
  • January 15, 2026
  • February 16, 2026
  • March 17, 2026

All trainings will be held from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM 
In-Person: 110 Emory Street, Oxford, GA 30054 -- Room 100
Registration is required.

Note: If you have a teaching certificate and are not under contract, contact the Human Resources Department to inquire about long-term substitute teaching vacancies and eligibility. You are NOT required to complete the substitute teacher training workshop.
