Trey Bailey has proudly served as the District 1 representative on the Newton County Board of Education since 2016. A lifelong Newton County resident, Trey has called District 1 home for more than 30 years. He and his wife, Alonda, recently celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary. Alonda retired from Mansfield Elementary School after a distinguished 30-year career in education.
Together they have three daughters. Anna Beth, a 2023 graduate of Eastside High School and Newton College & Career Academy, proudly serves in the United States Marine Corps. Their identical twins, Kaitlyn and Kristen, graduated from Eastside High School in 2026 and are currently enrolled at the University of Georgia.
After serving 23 years as Executive Pastor of Eastridge Church, Trey retired from full-time ministry and now works as a business and leadership consultant. Drawing on decades of executive leadership experience, he helps organizations strengthen leadership, improve operations, build healthy cultures, and navigate complex challenges.
Trey has remained deeply invested in the Newton County community throughout his career. He previously served as Chairman of Leadership Newton County through the Covington Newton County Chamber of Commerce, volunteered on the Chamber's Special Events Committee, and has supported organizations including the Covington Regional Ballet and the Arts Association of Newton County. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for Piedmont Newton Hospital and was named an Outstanding Georgia Citizen in 2014.
Whether serving on the Board of Education, consulting with organizations, or engaging the community through conversation, Trey is passionate about thoughtful leadership, continuous learning, and helping organizations and communities navigate complex issues with honesty, humility, and respect. He believes the best decisions are made when people listen well, seek to understand one another, and remain willing to work together despite differing perspectives.
Trey is also the co-host of The Town Square Podcast, a weekly show that explores issues impacting Newton County and the surrounding region through respectful conversations with community leaders. The podcast's guiding principle is simple:
unity, not uniformity.
A graduate of Mercer University and a Master’s recipient from Luther Rice Seminary, Trey attended Newton County High School and the University of Georgia before spending six years touring the country in a Gen-X alternative rock band—a chapter that helped shape his appreciation for people from all walks of life and the value of listening to different perspectives.
