Newton County School System is pleased to announce that the Eastside High School Academic Team recently earned third place honors at the Griffin RESA 2021-2022 Regional Academic Bowl! By finishing in the top four, the team earned the chance to compete in the Georgia Regional Academic Bowl State Championship against other regional winners.
According to teach coach, Mr. Eric Adams, to accommodate for the challenges of the pandemic, both last year and this year, Griffin RESA's Academic Competition was changed from the traditional in person Quizbowl with buzzers and paired matches. Instead, teams played rounds asynchronously, whereby a group of up to ten students answered 100 questions over the course of an hour. Like Quizbowl, the questions ranged over the full extent of academic subjects. After each round, teams were ranked according to the number of questions correctly answered. After the completion of five rounds over several months, the Eastside High School team tied for third place
Members of the team include: Elizabeth Johnson, Colin McGowan, Dixon Carter, Noah Glover, August Hays, Kimberly Rangel, Simon Reid, Patrick Kelly, Hannah Jones, Matthew Walker, and Reid Heilesen.
“I am extremely proud of the Eastside High School Academic Bowl team,” said Samantha Fuhrey, Superintendent of Newton County School System. “I have no doubt they will represent us well at the State Championship!”
