Georgia Department of Education SurveyIn response to the current circumstances caused by the impact of COVID-19 on school systems throughout Georgia, State Superintendent Richard Woods recommended to the State Board of Education that End-of-Course assessment grade weights be reduced from 20% of a student’s course grade to a weight of 0.01% of a students’ course grade. As he stated, ““Georgia will abide by federal law, but we are not going to layer additional stress and burden onto our students and teachers during this time. In this environment, these tests are not valid or reliable measures of academic progress or achievement, and we are taking all possible steps at the state level to reduce their high-stakes impact.”

On October 1, 2020, the Georgia State Board of Education rejected Superintendent Woods’s recommendation in favor of reducing the weight of the End-of-Course assessments from 20% of a student’s course grade to 10% of a student’s course grade. In doing so, they have also asked for feedback regarding this decision. Please visit the link below to voice your opinion.
