This week’s announcements:
1. ATHLETICS: The Georgia High School Sports Association announced on Monday, July 20, 2020 that they would delay the start of the high school football season two weeks, resulting in a September 4 start. All other fall sports are scheduled to start on time.
2. LEARNING MODEL SELECTION: The deadline to select your student’s Learning Model for the 2020-2021 school year has passed. If you did not select a model for your child, the school will be contacting you soon to determine your choice as this information is needed to plan for the reopening of schools. If you have made your choice using our online form, your student will utilize the selected learning model for the duration of the first semester.
3. BORROWING TECHNOLOGY EQUIPMENT: Parents who have selected virtual or self-paced learning models for their students were given the option to borrow devices from the Newton County School System. Upon request, NCSS will provide students with a Chromebook, protective sleeve, charger, hot spot, and Getting Started Guide. Parent/guardians will be required to review and sign a contract for checking out a device. The contract includes an agreement for checking out the device, time frame for usage, safeguarding device, direction for usage, related board policy, bar code device information, student identification number, parent’s information, contact information, etc. We will distribute devices at the student(s) home school location at a date to be determined. The device distribution will happen in conjunction to schools distributing classroom materials.
4. MASKS: Many parents have asked about masks. All staff and students will receive cloth masks. The usage of cloth face coverings is expected of students and staff; however, if there is a clinical reason that a face-covering cannot be worn, an exception may be granted. For more information on masks, check out our infographic and be sure to #MaskUpNCSS!

CLEANING, SANITIZING, & DISINFECTING: Effective cleaning and disinfection of frequently touched surfaces such as desks, doorknobs, light switches, faucet handles, stair rails, tables, countertops, and telephones using EPA approved cleaners will continually take place throughout the school/workday. Schools will be cleaned daily and high touch surfaces sanitized multiple times throughout the day. Cleaning and disinfecting protocols will be used in computer labs, media centers, and athletic facilities. Sanitizing and deep cleaning of schools and administrative offices will take place on weekends and school holidays.
