NCSS would like to take a moment to thank all of our stakeholders—students, parents, employees, and more—for providing feedback regarding our plans to reopen schools for the 2020-2021 school year. Whether you took one of our surveys, participated in our Community Listening Session, or reached out to us via email, telephone or social media, please know that we’ve heard you and are taking your input into consideration as we finalize our plans. We’ve actually received hundreds of messages the past few weeks and the information and suggestions you have provided are greatly appreciated!
This week’s announcements:
- We intend to announce our finalized plans during the week of July 6, 2020. As evidenced by your feedback, not all parents are ready to send their children back to school. As a result, Newton County School System will begin the 2020-2021 school year by offering two distinct models of instruction—in-person and virtual. After our plans are announced next week, parents will have the opportunity to review the two options and select which they prefer for their student. We will post this information on our website and social media accounts and notify parents through School Messenger to alert them when the information is available.
2. Our calendar survey is still underway; to date we’ve received approximately 7,000 responses. As stated in the survey, students are currently scheduled to report to school on August 3, 2020. With the continued increases in COVID-19, this may not be feasible and school may need to be delayed. We have received feedback from stakeholders on the two proposed alternate calendars and as a result of that very important feedback, we may in fact create a new draft calendar for consideration. Should we alter the school calendar, parents will be notified by School Messenger; the information will also be shared on our website and social media accounts.
Please visit our website and social media accounts for up-to-date information on our school system and our plans for the 2020-2021 school year.
