Thanksgiving Week Meal Service Updates

The Newton County School System has made changes to meal service delivery options in preparation for the Thanksgiving holiday. All weekly meal pick-up sites will be closed on Wednesday, November 25, 2020. Weekly meal pick-up by parents and/or guardians resumes on Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at specified locations (see below).

Additionally, the school system started the delivery of two days’ worth of meals on Tuesday, November 17th – Friday, November 20th. This will ensure children have breakfast and lunch meals from Tuesday, November 17th – Tuesday, November 24th. All meal service operations will be closed Wednesday through Sunday, November 25th through 29th.

Please note the following important reminders:

  • Households are only allowed to receive meals from only one food and nutrition service method (e.g., In-person at school; At a designated bus stop; Parent or guardian pick-up of a week’s worth of meals at one of the pick-up locations listed below)

  • All children under the age of 18 or 21 with special needs are eligible to receive FREE breakfast and lunch meals through June 30, 2021

  • Parents and/or Guardians can pick-up meals without their child(ren) present

  • Families can pick-up weekly meals at the following meal distribution sites every Wednesday from 4:00pm – 6:00pm (Note: Weekly meal pick-up sites will close on Wednesday, November 25th)

Other options for food and nutrition meal service include:

  • In-School Meal Service: In-school learners can pick up a FREE breakfast and lunch meal from their cafeteria to eat in the classroom or other designated school areas (e.g., atrium).

  • Daily Bus Meal Delivery: Buses are setup to deliver meals to designated bus stop locations. You can find when your meals will be delivered by downloading the Versatrans MyStop App. Your child(ren) student identification number(s) are needed to access estimated meal delivery time.

  • School Site Pick Up: If a parent/guardian misses their bus meal delivery, he/she can visit one of our cafeterias listed below to pick up a meal prior to 1:00pm each day. Please call the applicable cafeteria phone number and tell the manager the number of meals needed for your child(ren).
